If something here is yours and should not be, tell us and we will take it down. You do not need a lawyer and you do not need an account.

Where to send a notice

Our designated agent registration is in progress. Until it completes, the address below is still the right place to send a notice and we still act on notices exactly as described on this page. We would rather say this plainly than claim a registration we do not yet hold.

What a notice needs

Send whatever you have and we will act on it. A complete notice under 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3) includes:

Your signature, physical or electronic, as the owner or somebody authorised to act for them.
What work you say is infringed. A title is enough.
Where it is on Tavern Bag, specifically enough that we can find it. An entry name and a book title is ideal.
How to reach you: address, phone or email.
A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent, or the law.
A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorised to act for the owner.

We will act on an incomplete notice too. These elements matter for the legal process, not for whether we listen to you.

What we do when one arrives

We remove or disable the material, normally within one business day.
If a user uploaded it, we tell them what was removed and who asked.
We keep a record of the notice and what we did about it.
If you tell us a whole book is yours, we remove the whole book, not one entry of it.

Repeat infringer policy

It is our policy to terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright.

In practice: a valid notice against material a user uploaded is a strike against that account. We notify the account holder each time. Two strikes and we suspend the account pending an explanation. Three strikes and we terminate it and delete its uploaded content. A strike is removed if the notice is withdrawn or successfully countered.

We also terminate outright, without counting strikes, where an account is plainly being used to redistribute commercial books to other people.

If we took down something that was yours to post

Send a counter-notice to the same address with: your signature, what was removed and where it was, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe it was removed by mistake or misidentification, your name, address and phone number, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district. We forward it to whoever sent the original notice and may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days unless they file suit.

What is here and why

The shared library is limited to material a licence lets us publish. Every license and the credit it asks for is listed on our licenses page. Anything a user imports is private to that user's account, is never shown to anyone else, and is never merged with another account's copy.
